Lagasse’s Day Cut Short by Early Spin

Daytona Beach, FL (Feb.23, 2013)

Scott Lagasse Jr. was just getting settled into the draft and beginning to search for drafting partners during the opening laps of the DRIVE4COPD 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday afternoon, when on lap 7 he was clipped in the quarter panel by another competitor coming off of the fourth turn which sent the #8 HybridLight / Boy Scouts of America Chevrolet out of control and spinning nose first into the infield. The damaged sustained to the right front suspension and frame during the spin made it impossible to make the heavy repairs necessary to his machine to allow the team to return to competition, relegating Lagasse Jr. to a 39th place finish in the season opening event.

Lagasse Jr. at home in Daytona

Daytona Beach, FL (Feb.19, 2013)

When you think of NASCAR Stock Car racing and Florida, St. Augustine might not be the first place that comes to mind for most folks, but if you’re NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Scott Lagasse  Jr., it’s the place you call home . A native of Florida, Lagasse grew up cutting his teeth and honing his driving skills in the shadows of Daytona on the dirt ovals and asphalt short tracks across Florida and Georgia, consistently winning at every level along the way. “Daytona is home for me and I grew up watching races and dreaming of winning at this place.” He then got the call he’d been waiting for in 2005, after winning in the ASA Touring Series, to move up to the big leagues of NASCAR. Scotty has spent the past seven seasons continuing his winning ways on dirt and in the ARCA Series as well as making 71 combined starts in the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series. . Through those years, Lagasse was fortunate enough to drive for several standout crew chiefs along the way including Brad Parrott, Brian Pattie & Steve Boyer who all have encouraged Scotty to not give up, with the common message saying “given the right situation with a committed program and proper funding, you will win races”.

Lagasse Jr. kicks off 2013 Dirt Track Season in The Battle in the Swamp

WAYCROSS, GA (February 11th, 2013) Scott Lagasse Jr. kicked off his 2013 Dirt Racing Season in The Battle in the Swamp at Waycross Motor Speedway, February 8th and 9th.

This would be Scotty’s first start in the ultra competitive National Late Model Dirt Series. In Friday night practice Scotty and his TeamSLR guys were productive and the hard work resulted in a great qualifying session for the #8 HybridLight, Boy Scout Chevrolet.  Scotty qualified 2nd for the race and after the draw and inversion Scotty found himself starting 6th on the outside of the 3rd row.   With less grip in the outside lane the #8 Boy Scout Chevrolet fell to 9th before Scotty settled in the preferred inside groove and started moving forward.  “We picked a harder compound tire for the race which we hadn’t practiced on.  We thought it was a good decision at the time because I didn’t think the softer Hoosier tire would make it to the end of the race, but the tires just took too long to come in,” said Lagasse Jr.  By the end of the race Scotty was laying down the fastest times of any car in the field, but ran out of laps and finished 5th.   “We are a little short on experience with this particular car and rules but I am quite happy with how well we ran.  With a different tire decision who knows what could have happened tonight.   I am really excited to have the opportunity to represent HybridLight and the Boy Scouts in this program as we ramp up and spread the word,” said Scotty.

Lagasse Jr. will set his sights next on the NASCAR Nationwide Series where he will compete with his #8 HybridLight / Boy Scouts of America Chevrolet in the Drive4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway on February 23rd, 2013.  For more information contact Roger Taylor at roger@teamslr.com.
