(St. Augustine, Fla.) April 29, 2015- It’s been a few busy weeks for TeamSLR. Scott Lagasse Jr. and his team have traveled the country for events to engage with our youth, provide leadership and make a positive impact to their lives.

March 21 & 28: Spring, the season when Boy Scouts from around the country are racing their pinewood derby cars to see how fast they can go. Lagasse Jr. and TeamSLR attended two pinewood derby’s in the North Florida Council (Timucua and Osceola Districts). TeamSLRAlthough Lagasse Jr. couldn’t race his NASCAR Xfinity Series Alert Today Florida car on this track, he did have a Pinewood Derby car provided by close Scout friend, young Reece King. Lagasse Jr. has raced this car many times at Pinewood derby events around the country over the past two years, as a show of support for Reece who has been fighting and winning against leukemia for several years now. The car is a replica of Lagasse Jr.’s NASCAR race car. The car was a huge hit among the young Scouts. Lagasse Jr. and members of his team, answered questions, and delivered the safety message of being alert and limiting distractions whether you are a pedestrian, bicyclist or motorist.

“Pinewood Derby events are always fun events to attend. TeamSLRIt is neat to see all of the different designs the Scouts create. These races definitely get the Scouts excited, which makes for a great competition,” said Lagasse Jr.

April 18: Lagasse Jr. and his team supported a local Pinch-A-Penny store in St. Augustine. TeamSLR
Lagasse Jr. visited with store customers, employees, and guests that were drawn in by his NASCAR Xfinity Series car during his time at the store. One lucky customer won two (2) tickets to the NASCAR Xfinity Series: Subway Firecracker 250 on July 4, 2015, at Daytona International Speedway.

“Pinch-A-Penny: Florida’s Leading Pool and Supply Retailer has been a great partner to our program. It’s fun to be able to participate in an event at a local store. I was even able to shop for supplies and get advice from experts for my pool,” said Lagasse Jr.

TeamSLR traveled to Hastings, FL to participate in the 5th Annual Car & Truck Show. Proceeds from the event went to support Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Alert Today Florida/Pinch-A-Penny NASCAR Xfinity Series car grabbed the attention of the spectators as the highlight of the show.

April 21: Following the 5th Annual Car & Truck Show, Lagasse Jr. and the team traveled 18 hours to Milton, Massachusetts, for the Boston Minuteman Council’s- STEM Camp. Lagasse Jr. spoke to Scouts of different ages about the sport of NASCAR, and the roles that drafting, drag, and down force have on the car. Lagasse Jr. spoke to Scouts about the aerodynamics of the car and how it factors into speed while at the track.
